SrutiBox emulates an Indian harmonium, traditionally used as a foundational sound in Indian music and during spiritual rituals involving chanting and droning.

SrutiBox 1.4 is now compatible with iOS 8, available for iPhone 4, 5, 6, and 6+ models, featuring a slightly revamped interface and bug fixes that enhance user experience.

Functioning as a synthesizer, SrutiBox generates droning sounds with diverse timbres and precise intonations, blurring the boundaries between tones, timbres, and chords. The drone can either remain stable or evolve through gradual modulation and harmonic transitions. Noteworthy is its ability to play in the background on iOS 4.0, aligning with standard music apps.

SrutiBox utilizes 12 adjustable "reeds" that can be tuned to numerous scales, randomized in detuning, and enhanced with chorusing and modulation effects. Individual control over pitch interval and volume for each "reed" allows for vast drone variations using various timbres suitable for drones including vocal-like tones and low frequency-friendly chirps.

An engaging feature of SrutiBox on the iPhone is the ability to simulate pumping bellows by waving the phone, adding a touch of realism to the simulation.
